Perseverance Book Award

Image
On the last day of school, during the closing assembly, several awards are handed out to some students.  A week prior, Ed and I got an email from the principal informing us that Sophia has been selected for an award.  He wanted to make sure we would be present at the Zoom ceremony to witness it and asked that we keep it a secret.  He didn't tell us what the award was going to be. As we listened and watched over Zoom, the principals of the junior and senior schools began introducing the different awards and calling out the names of the students receiving them.  We were delighted to find out that Sophia was being awarded the Perseverance Award. Here's how they introduced the award: Perseverance Book Awards These are given to students who demonstrate a high commitment to strengthening their approaches to learning while viewing challenges in learning as the ultimate opportunity for growth. Our recipients this year never hesitated to take on those learning ch...

Goodbye PYP and the Red building

Image
Hard to believe that six years have passed since our little one (not so little anymore) started Kindergarten.  She has grown from a shy, quiet little girl to a friendly, confident pre-teen.  She has a good set of friends and is a keen and curious learner.  Grade 5'ers are the big kids in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) building and they got to be the leaders for the younger kids.  I am still in shock that Sophia is done with Grade 5.  We will miss the Red building (as the PYP building is called), all her teachers (Ms. M is awesome), after-school care, Ms. Janine, and being the "little ones" in the school. The past year, with COVID protocols in place, has been unlike the previous years.  The kids have to wear masks and stay within their cohorts.  No mixing with the other grades.  Lots of hand washing and sanitizing.  No hugging teachers and friends.  Sophia's class also missed two sleep-away camps (one in Grade 4 and anothe...

Happy Father's Day

Celebrating the best dada ever! I tell Sophia often that she's a very lucky girl to have such a loving and kind father.  Ed, you really are the best. We love you lots.

A New Subaru Outback

Image
We decided to stay with Subaru.  Yes, we are loyal customers. Our 2011 Outback was damaged by another car a few months ago, unfortunately.  I was so sad when that happened.  I loved my car and it served our family well.  With summer looming, it was time to get another family adventure type of car to take us on our camping trips and family outings.  We test drove other vehicles, SUVs like the Lexus RX350 and Acura RDX.  In the end, we chose the 2021 Outback XT Limited trim in Brilliant Bronze Metallic colour.  I'm pretty happy with our decision to stay with a Subaru Outback.  It meets all our needs, doesn't break the bank and is a well-built car.  This one has a lot more bells and whistles than our 2011 one and many more safety features. My favourite feature - heated steering wheel!  I'm looking forward to going on many family road trips in our new car.

Grade 5 Exhibition

Image
On June 4th was my Exhibition. It is a big project I had worked on for around 6 months and finally finished! After the big presentations, there was partying, a calm moment, quickly ruined by balloons! There was screaming, running, and tapping each other on the head. That was one of the best days of my life. Mama was there and saw my fantastic work. I love Mama and Daddy so much. I am so proud of myself. I would definitely relive that day again if I could. - Sophia
