Perseverance Book Award
On the last day of school, during the closing assembly, several awards are handed out to some students. A week prior, Ed and I got an email from the principal informing us that Sophia has been selected for an award. He wanted to make sure we would be present at the Zoom ceremony to witness it and asked that we keep it a secret. He didn't tell us what the award was going to be.
As we listened and watched over Zoom, the principals of the junior and senior schools began introducing the different awards and calling out the names of the students receiving them. We were delighted to find out that Sophia was being awarded the Perseverance Award.
Here's how they introduced the award:
These are given to students who demonstrate a high commitment to strengthening their approaches to learning while viewing challenges in learning as the ultimate opportunity for growth. Our recipients this year never hesitated to take on those learning challenges and it is my honour to recognize the determined efforts of this year's recipients of the Perseverance Book Awards.
Then they displayed Sophia's name and photo on the screen, together with her classmate Jayden.
She received a book as a gift (hence, they are called "book awards") and many congratulations from her teachers and classmates.
I felt so proud of my girl! Perseverance is a great trait to have. And I have seen how hard she worked throughout the year to achieve her goals. There were tears and whining and pouting and stomping and slamming the door moments. But she would find a way to work through her emotions, take one step at a time, and eventually complete her work.
Well done, Sophia! We are soooo proud of you and love you so much.
